The Problem with Many Polished Concrete Jobs
The sad truth in the polished concrete flooring trade is the myriad variables that come into play that can adversely affect what outcomes are possible. The best way to guarantee an ideal outcome is to plan the job before any concrete is mixed or laid.
As this is often not possible, this does mean that even the best contractors will find themselves unable to predict the outcome of a full mechanical polished process, in terms of quality, look and feel, before work begins.
The key point to understand here is that your polished concrete flooring contractor is only able to work with the pre-existing materials. So the quality and consistency of the concrete base, therefore, is crucial. With the prevalence of low-quality concrete installations in the UK, this creates a great deal of uncertainty about what’s possible for many individual floors.
The Solution: RPCS Sample Service
Here at RPCS Ltd we devised a solution that helps us understand the pre-existing conditions of your concrete floor whilst offering a preview of what your polished floor could look like.
Benefits of your sample service:
- Proof of workmanship
- Real-world indication of finish
- Early ‘yes-no’ decision point unavailable elsewhere
It is our belief that we are the first to bring this particular solution to the marketplace here in the UK and at the time of publication, are unsure whether it exists elsewhere.
Having studied the market, built a deep understanding of the myriad problems in the polished concrete trade, we devised our sample service so that all parties are able to understand the pre-existing conditions together, in order to set realistic expectations for the project, early in the process.
What is the sample service?

Call Ed Standen on 01564 718460 to arrange your consultation and sample service.
Important Note: When you have seen your sample floor and wish to proceed to completion, the fees for your sample service will count as work towards to full and final project and be shown in your records as a first instalment towards the full price of your domestic transformation project.
Face-to-face review (consultation)
We will come to you, discuss your requirements and assess the rooms you would like polished. We will then share our initial thoughts with you, explain any obvious risks and, explain your options and answer any questions for you.
Delivery of sample patch
When your personal consultation is complete, you have reviewed all your options and confirmed your preference, we will proceed with work on your sample polished concrete surface.
We will discuss the results of your sample with you as soon as it’s completed. In most cases this will be face-to-face in the comfort of your home as soon as the sample is complete.
You will receive a written report summarising the work we have done, complete with our findings, recommendations, options, quotations, terms and conditions.
What if I don’t like it?
We hope that you will. That said, we recognise that sometimes, some people may not be entirely happy with the outcome at this stage. Far better to find out quickly, than halfway into a full contract with other providers that do not offer a sample service.
We also hope that, in the rare instance that things don’t pan out as hoped, that all is not lost at this stage. We will then help you explore your options:
If you don’t like the look of your sample finish, we have the opportunity to explore a number of options together, including micro-toppings.
How to book your consultation and sample serviceWe are confident you will love our service, love the idea of your sample floor space and love to get to work on transforming your living space.
However, working with us is not for everybody. We only work with people that are deadly serious about transforming their living space, so we do charge a fee for our sample service. In return we pack lots of value into your trial. When we visit we will guide you through all the considerations and help you make important decisions about your future flooring options.

Who this is for?
Polished Concrete Flooring is ideal for anyone seeking a stunning unique floor for the home.
Who this is not for?
A refined polished concrete surface is not for you if you insist on consistent symmetrical patterns. The myriad of variables caused by a mixture of pre-existing conditions make a consistent symmetrical outcome impossible. A unique finish is the one outcome that is absolutely guaranteed.
The not so small print
Yes we have terms and conditions. But we refuse to hide behind small print. Being open and honest is important to us and we hate nasty surprises. We therefore make it our business to highlight all the risks, issues and important clauses, before entering into any agreement.
Here’s some of our most important Terms and Conditions:
Concrete Specification Guide – Quality Control
As we demand the best possible results for our customers, we will only work with concrete that has been laid to an acceptable standard. As such the concrete base MUST meet the standards laid out in the Refined Polished Concrete Specialists Ltd Concrete Specification Guide. As we recognise that our customers may not always know the specification of their concrete floor we have a Sample Service which allows us to garner an indication as to whether we have a concrete base with which we are willing to work.
The Outcome of Your Polished Concrete Floor Cannot be Predicted or Guaranteed
The ultimate look of your polished concrete floor is determined entirely by the pre-existing conditions present within the concrete base. The unique blend of sands, aggregates and other materials make the end result unpredictable. This is part of the appeal of polished concrete, which makes every floor unique. If you expect to be able to control the outcome, then this type of decorative flooring is probably not suitable for you.
Low Maintenance NOT No Maintenance
Our polished concrete solutions are completed to the highest possible standards, ensuring they look amazing but are also long-lasting. This does not mean our floors are indestructible, or that they cannot be damaged if they are not looked after. There is a standard of regular maintenance and after-care that is required to ensure a long-life for your beautiful surface. The standard of care required after one of our polished concrete installations is laid out in our Maintenance of Polished Concrete Floors Guide.
