Polished Concrete Overlays

The vast majority of concrete floors can be processed without difficulty to a high standard, high gloss, mirror finish as seen in many residential and commercial environments. However, on occasion, there can be a myriad of reasons an existing concrete slab could be unsuitable to be diamond processed, the slab could have imperfections which will vastly effect the overall aesthetic achievable, whether its due to a substandard/compromised pour or damage caused by heavy foot traffic in a working environment. There may also be not enough depth available in order to pour a new slab, or not enough time on a project to allow for the 28 day cure needed to process slabs in situ. Polished cementitious overlays are proving to be an extremely aesthetically pleasing, highly efficient and quick to install alternative, with endless options for creating a bespoke and eye catching floor. Though the process of laying an overlay is quite different from polished concrete, the final finish is completed in the same way and still provides the same WOW factor as a polished concrete floor in situ, they also give you much more control over the final look and finish of your floor and can be tailored specifically to your requirements

Our process for installing cementitious overlays is as follows:

We would firstly key the original sub-base and prime with an epoxy two-part primer with added seeded quartz sand, this process acts as a bonding material to ensure thorough adhesion from the sub-base to the micro-topping.

The product is then installed on day two(the entire area of floor) and is left to cure overnight, the floor is then ready to be diamond processed on day three, the area size will impact the amount of time taken to process

The toppings are processed in the same way as a slab (shine is created through the use of progressively finer diamond abrasives used to hone and then polish the surface, this means the shine is embedded into the slab and is not a synthetic shine created through the use of guard coats etc.) to ensure longevity and maximum durability.

We mainly use CTS products for our overlays, coupled with Ameripolish and Metzger Mcguire as these product work along side each other to ensure the highest of quality and most durable floors with an unrivalled aesthetic.

CTS Rapid set SELF-LEVELING is a high performance architectural topping and re-surfacer that can be used both internally and externally.  The CTS products rapidly level, maintain workability for 20 minutes, and produce a smooth, strong surface with high- bond strength. TRU is ready for foot traffic in 3 to 4 hours. As an interior and exterior product, TRU is durable in wet or dry conditions.

There are many environmental advantages to using CTS products, they reduce your carbon footprint and lower your environmental impact. The production of TRU emits 65% less CO2 than Portland cement.

CTS is designed specifically for polishing and decorative flooring applications and if processed correctly will give you outstanding clarity and gloss. TRU is highly polishable due to low polymer content and high density

TRU is extremely versatile and we can even incorporate aggregates/coloured glass etc to create numerous design possibilities which are completely unique to you.

The CTS products are very high strength 5000 psi (34.5 MPa) in 24 hours 6500 psi (44.8 MPa) in 28 days and suitable for foot traffic in 3 to 4 hours. The grinding and polishing can commence 24hours after pour..
